DUBLIN -Calling it “a great weekend for lacrosse in Ireland,” National Teams Director John Cavanaugh reported that 52 men and 33 women participated in the recent selection camps for Ireland’s 2012 National Teams.
Traveling from near and far, the players convened at University College, Dublin, where the head coaches and other assessors led them through a variety of events to determine who will represent Ireland on the 23-member men’s team and 18-member women’s team.
As National Teams Director, Cavanaugh serves on the selection committee for both squads. Working with him at the camps were: (men’s team) Head Coach Tom Prior, Assistant Coach Colm Murphy, Ireland Lacrosse CEO Michael Kennedy, and UCD Head Coach Sean Bodie; (women’s team) Head Coach Lauren Schneider, Julie Clarke and Anne Murphy.
Cavanaugh also reported that player enthusiasm was high and candidates for the team received some great instruction. “I wish you could have witnessed the weekend,” he said, “we’ve come a long way….. I was very proud of what I saw.”
