In an international exhibition match held on St. Patrick’s Day weekend, The Ireland Men’s National Team defeated team Israel 11-10 in an exciting and tough battle. Held on the neutral grounds of Centre Island Town Park in Bayville New York, these two teams faced-off in what can be described as a warm-up match leading up to this years World Championships in Denver, Colorado.
The game featured some big hits from both teams while each trading scores back and forth. Both teams fought hard, but in the end it was team Ireland that came out on top. After the match, the Irish Lacrosse Foundation held a fundraiser & reception @ the beautiful Wall’s Wharf restaurant on the Long Island Sound in Bayville, NY.
Michael Kennedy, chief executive of Ireland Lacrosse, said Sunday’s game came together by chance after his team planned its training camp for St. Patrick’s Day weekend. After talking to Scott Neiss, executive director of the Israel Lacrosse Association, and realizing the holidays were in such proximity, the cross-cultural game day was born.
“We know there’s a huge Jewish community in New York and a huge Irish community in New York, and it’s great for both teams to be able to connect to those communities on major days for both countries. It’s absolutely special,” Kennedy said.
Funds were raised to support the National Team and the growth of lacrosse in Ireland. Many thanks to all of those who attended and donated their time and contributed to the cause.
