Men Eliminate Sweden, Advance to Championship vs. England

Ireland takes down Sweden by a score of 13-8 in the semifinal round of the 2012 European Championship Tournament. They are on a remarkable 5 game winning streak to enter the championship game after starting the tournament 0-3. The Men had a strong first half in this game, building up a three goal lead going into halftime (6-3). The team came out of halftime strong by quickly posting up goals. They controlled the entire game in the thiRd quarter and went into the fourth leading the game 11-4.

Sweden would get desperate in the fourth quarter and managed to get on a scoring run of their own. It would be too late for the Swedes and Ireland would win the game 13-8, earning their first championship game appearanace at the European Tournament.

The Ireland Men will face-off against the English in what could prove to be one of the most intense championship matchups in European Tournament history. Paddy O’Leary said after the big playoff win that “We know that we can play and we have the will to get it done. We just need to go in there against England and play our game because we are in it together, and we can win this championship.” Ireland had 8 different players find the back of the net in the semifinal game against Sweden. Connor Sweeney recorded 19 saves with a 70% save percentage for the game.
